New Information 2004/5

Ecoliners, our 6cm plug production can also be found in the main catalogue, details of which will be found on Page III.

Delivery is now Free of Charge for individual orders placed in excess of £1000 to Mainland England destinations.

The range of plants supplied with Picture Labels included in the price has been increased and these are indicated with an ä to the right of the specification in the catalogue.

New catalogue items which have been added to this list are indicated with the text (New Item) next to the plant name, and their description is highlighted in bold.

Having completed 2 years of trials using Peat Reduced compost we are pleased to announce that from 2004 we will be using a 40% peat reduced compost in all our 9cm liners and Ecoliners.  In 2005 this will be increased to 50%.  All our plugs are produced using a Peat Free compost.

Our monthly Availability List is sent out monthly by post. You are now able to request an updated list, which can be sent by Fax or Email at any time.  Our Web Site at www.fromefield.com is regularly updated and lists and catalogue can be viewed or downloaded directly from the site.

We produce many varieties speculatively, which you will not find in the catalogue. These will be listed within our monthly Availability Lists. These plants tend to be more unpredictable production lines and will only appear on a list once we have established a crop.  We are very happy to take orders for these items on this basis.

We also grow items under exclusive contract, and would be very happy to discuss your ideas.

ALP   (The Association of Liner Producers)

We are very proud to be Members of the Association of Liner Producers, and are very committed to the principles set out in the ALP Code of Best Practice.

During 2003 it was decided that the ALP members would adopt the BOPP code of practice and will be accredited under the BOPP scheme during 2003/4.  The BOPP accreditation scheme is being recognised as a more industry related and recognised standard and incorporates the EurepGap standard.

The benefits to the customers of Liner Producers belonging to ALP are;

 ·          Specified High Quality

·           Even Grading

·           Clean Healthy Plants

·           Reliable Service

·           And most important they are British Grown.

Buy With Confidence

Text Box: We are an approved member of the Hampshire County Council ‘Buy with Confidence’ scheme, and are accredited by the Council’s Trading Standards Service. Details can be sought at www.buywithconfidence.info

We pride ourselves on the quality of our plants, and upon the service we provide to our customers. The feedback we get from you is important if we are to improve further.

Flat Rate Farmers Certificate

Another important change was that from the 1st January 1996 we de-registered for VAT in favour of the Flat Rate Farmers Certificate. This certificate is issued to Farmers and Growers who satisfy certain criteria, manly that of being a grower rather than a retailer.

The main benefit to us is that we no longer have the administrative nightmare of VAT returns and the extra expense that they incur.   It will allow us to remain competitive, as long as we produce the majority of what we sell.  This has always been the intention and will remain so.  In the longer term we hope that it will allow us to become even more competitive.

What are the benefits to you?

Because we have effectively de-registered we no longer have to charge VAT at the current rate. (Currently 17.5%).

To non-registered or other Flat Rated customers we charge NO VAT or Flat Rate Addition (FRA) as it is more correctly known.

To VAT-registered customers we will be charging 4% VAT which can be reclaimed in the same way as before.

In order for us to update our records it will be necessary to ask you to let us know if you are not VAT-registered. By default all customers will be treated as VAT-registered unless we are advised to the contrary.

Plant Names

Whilst we make every effort to ensure that the names are correct for the plant we offer, we make no specific guarantee.  We are always pleased to hear from you if you believe any of our plants are either not true to type, or are incorrectly named.  In some cases the names of the plants we offer are sold using so- called ‘Fancy Names’, and these names are quite often offered to us by the seed suppliers. If we believe that the name of a plant is ‘Fancy’ we will detail the full botanical name within the description.

Descriptions

We have included descriptions of the plants in the catalogue. A great deal of time has been spent compiling the list, and although the general descriptions are essentially only brief, we felt this information would be helpful to our customers when compiling their own catalogues and lists, as well as for descriptive labels and point of sale material.  If you believe that a description is in any way inaccurate we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Crop failures & Shortfalls

We are committed to advising our customers of any shortfalls or delays with reserve orders.  Our New procedure for doing so is as follows;

1                We will advise all customers of any crop failure, shortfall or delay in any reserve order placed in excess of 100 plants per variety.  This will take place as soon as we are aware of any production problems and will be communicated personally in writing or by telephone.

2                For orders under 100 plants per variety we will communicate crop failures once a month as an addendum to our monthly stock list mailing.  Due to the volume of small orders we receive we are sorry but we are unable to communicate individual delays or shortfalls.

3                In the case of a production shortfall to any individual variety, orders are allocated to available stock on a first order basis.

4                At all times we are committed to keeping our customers informed and to providing an excellent level of customer service.

Introduction to Ecoliners (6cm plugs)

Ecoliners are an economical alternative to the more common supply of separate 7, 8 and 9cm liners, and perform equally well.  We feel they represent excellent value for money, whilst retaining many of the advantages of the conventional pot system.  Ecologically they are better as there is less material wastage.

Ecoliners are only available to order, and are as such grown to order. We would be pleased to discuss any particular requirements you may have that are not listed within these pages. All we ask is that you order a minimum of;

2 trays per variety (80 plants)

and a total minimum order of

25 trays (1000 plants).

You can expect orders that are placed before 31st October 2003 to be ready for delivery/collection from May 2003 or to a specific ready date where possible.
